What We Are Looking For?
PlayFest wants new, full-length musicals and plays that are inspired by (or based upon) any works of classic literature OR historic events OR people who profoundly advanced science. However, your creation need not be limited strictly to reality/biography or exclude 20th and 21st century subjects.
Plays and musicals requiring less than 7 actors are preferred, although exceptions can be made. We are greatly interested in one-actor shows. In the case of the latter, we do not accept history lectures or museum-style adaptations that are faithful to a fault. We prefer dynamic new theatre building upon classic stories and tales to speak (and reach out to) contemporary audiences.
The above applies to musicals and adaptations of musicals, also.
We would like to solicit works by Hispanic authors, or with Hispanic subject matter, for our Hispanic Initiative. Works submitted must be written in English. These must also draw inspiration from classic literary works OR historical events OR persons. Past Hispanic Initiative participants have included Elaine Romero, Ricky J. Martinez, and Miami's New Theatre.
