On hiring a car in Kangaroo Island
Our data shows that Kangaroo Island, along with other isolated cities in Australia, book out of rental cars during peak seasons (i.e., school holidays and major city events) because of the limited amount of rental cars available by providers in the area. We recommend always booking well in advance for this location.

The per-day rates of some rental cars may fall if you book for a longer rental period. Prices often change around daily, three-day, five-day and seven-day periods. Also, note that the selection of rental cars available in Kangaroo Island may be more limited if you are looking for a long-term car rental, so it’s best to compare a few different booking durations first.
Thrifty, Hertz and Europcar depots located on the mainland may allow their vehicles to be taken on the ferry to Kangaroo Island, but generally only with prior authorisation so make sure to request this from your supplier.
Unfortunately, you can’t. Any vehicle rented on Kangaroo Island cannot be taken off the island.
There are petrol stations at Kingscote, Parndana, Penneshaw, Island Beach and Vivonne Bay. However, only Kingscote and Penneshaw are open 24 hours.
