You need a credit card to rent a hire car from Europcar, and their credit card policy accepts American Express (AMEX), Mastercard, Visa, and Diners Club credit cards. Europcar also accepts debit cards from Visa and Mastercard.

Europcar’s deposit policy requires a pre-authorisation hold on your credit or debit card for the duration of your rental for a security deposit. The deposit amount, also known as a holding deposit or bond varies subject to the vehicle class and type of card used. Upon the return of your hire car, and pending any additional charges, a deposit refund will revoke the pre-authorisation from your card. Please note that the deposit refund time for the deposit return to appear on your statement can be as long as 15 business days, with three to seven days being more common — this delay is dependent on your bank. The minimum age to hire a rental car from Europcar is 21, although young drivers under the age of 25 may not be permitted to hire certain vehicles, and a young driver fee or surcharge may apply. Europcar has no explicit upper age limit or maximum age restriction on those eligible to rent a hire car.

Europcar’s driving licence requirements are that all drivers, including additional drivers, possess a valid and unrestricted driver licence which displays their current residential address. Provisional licences and learner permits are not accepted. If your licence is not in English, you will require an International Driving Permit along with your driver licence.

Yes, Europcar will allow you to add drivers, however the second driver and any further extra drivers are subject to the same regulations as the primary driver, including age restrictions, and are limited to the number of passengers the vehicle is legally licensed to carry. The additional driver cost is capped at a maximum amount and is determined by the number of additional drivers and the length of the rental. There is an additional fee for each additional driver. Yes. Basic cover is included in your Europcar rental quote, but in the instance of vehicle theft, an accident, other damage, or third-party loss, you’ll be liable to pay for the damage charges up to the excess amount outlined in your rental agreement. The excess refers to the excess amount you are liable for before the basic cover applies. The amount of this excess can vary depending on the type of vehicle, the age of the renter, and a number of other variables. Europcar offers add-on options for excess reduction, including collision damage protection, for an additional cost, though be sure to read the details of their damage policy to learn what is and is not covered. Prosura is another excess insurance option to consider if you are looking for comprehensive excess reduction coverage at a reasonable cost.

Yes. Roadside assistance is included for all mechanical defects not resulting from human error or misuse of the rental vehicle. In the instance of non-mechanical issues, such as lost keys, keys locked in the vehicle, or a flat battery due to lights being left on, Europcar may charge you a call-out fee.

Europcar partners with Linkt for toll processing. When you travel on a toll road, a Linkt Rental Account will automatically be set-up in your name and Linkt will charge you directly for any tolls plus a daily surcharge for any day you use a toll road. Europcar offers two types of rental rates, with both limited and unlimited mileage rental car plans available. While the term mileage is commonly used, in Australia the distances used in these policies are measured in kilometres. If you exceed the kilometre limit allowed by a limited mileage plan, there will be an extra kilometre charge for the additional distance driven. Europcar offers three fueling options for their rental cars. Vehicles can be hired under a pre-paid fuel agreement, where you pay for the car being supplied with a full tank of fuel and you can return it without refilling the tank; or, where you are required to return the hire car with a full tank of petrol (with you filling the fuel tank at your own expense); or a pay on return policy where you pay to have the rental car refuelled when you return the rental vehicle. If your hire car rental period is yet to commence, you can manage your booking within the VroomVroomVroom app or by contacting our customer care team to make the required changes. If you have already collected your Europcar hire car, you’ll need to contact the depot you collected the vehicle from to request an extra day — or whatever extension period is desired. Bear in mind that any change to the rental period — regardless of if it is before you have collected the car or after — may alter the total cost of your hire car. If you need to cancel your booking, if you paid a deposit at the time of your booking with Europcar through VroomVroomVroom, then you need to give at least 48 hours notice of your cancellation in order to receive a refund.
