AMEX, Mastercard, Visa, and Diners Club credit cards are accepted for vehicle payments with Sixt. Only some Sixt locations accept debit cards from Visa and Mastercard, so please check beforehand. Cash payments are not accepted.
Sixt will take a pre-authorisation hold on your card for the duration of your rental. This security deposit, also known as a holding deposit, rental deposit, or bond, varies and is a hold on your credit card depending on the type of vehicle, pickup location, and payment type. This deposit pre-authorisation is removed from your card (pending any additional charges) immediately upon the return of your rental vehicle, however the deposit return can take seven to ten days to appear on your account — this delay is dependent on your bank. For further information, please refer to the “Important Information” section for details specific to your rental vehicle, or contact our customer care team.
To rent a hire car from Sixt in Australia, their policy requires the minimum age of any driver to be at least 21 years. Drivers aged under 25 will need to pay a young driver surcharge, and the Sixt age requirement may restrict them to a limited range of vehicles, and rule them ineligible to purchase Sixt’s Ultimate Protection excess product. Additional drivers under the age of 25 are permitted, but they will also be subject to the under 25 fee.
Any unrestricted driving licence, either Australian or international, will satisfy Sixt's driver licence requirements for a standard vehicle rental. A learner permit or provisional licence are not accepted for vehicle hire, and if your licence isn’t printed in English, or does not include your photograph, you’ll need to present an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Yes, Sixt allows you to add drivers to the Rental Agreement, however they are subject to the same additional driver requirements as the primary driver. This includes additional drivers under 25 being charged a young driver fee, and are limited to the number of passengers the vehicle is legally licensed to carry. There is a daily additional fee for a second driver and each subsequent extra driver, but the cost is capped to a maximum charge for the rental period. For further information, including the specific fee per additional driver per day, please see the “Important Information” section for details specific to your rental vehicle, or contact our customer care team.
Yes. Basic insurance cover is included in the hire car rental quote, but if the vehicle is stolen, damaged, or a third-party loss occurs while the vehicle is in your possession, you’ll have to pay damage charges, which can include scratches, but generally not wear and tear, up to the Rental Vehicle Excess amount listed in your Sixt Rental Agreement. The car rental excess refers to the amount you are liable for before the basic protection cover applies and the amount of this excess can vary depending on the type of vehicle, the age of the renter, and a number of other variables. Sixt offers additional coverage, including Ultimate Protection and Premium Protection, both for an additional daily cost, and this can reduce the excess amount, but be sure to read through your detailed Rental Agreement to see what is and is not covered, and also for more information regarding the cost of excess reduction cover. Prosura is another excess insurance option to consider if you are looking for comprehensive excess reduction coverage.
Yes. Sixt will provide complimentary roadside assistance, including towing, for any mechanical-based defects that are inherent to the vehicle. However, for issues which are not strictly mechanical you’ll be charged a call-out fee along with any associated costs.
Sixt partners with Linkt for toll processing. When you travel on a toll road, a Linkt Rental Account will automatically be set-up in your name and Linkt will charge you directly for any tolls plus a daily surcharge for any day you use a toll road. For more information regarding these charges, please see the “Important Information” section for details specific to your rental vehicle, or contact our customer care team.
Most Sixt rental cars come with unlimited kilometres, however, if a kilometre limit on driving distance does apply to your Sixt rental car, the daily kilometre allowance will be shown on your Rental Agreement. If you drive in excess of this daily allowance, a charge may apply for the additional distance.
Sixt offers three options regarding fuel and their rental cars. You can purchase pre-paid fuel, meaning you can return the vehicle without a full tank of petrol; or you can return it empty without having paid for prepaid fuel, in which case you may be charged a premium refuelling charge to refill the petrol tank; or you can fill the hire car yourself, at your own cost, before you return it. To save money, use the VroomVroomVroom fuel price comparison app to find the best-priced petrol near the depot you need to return your rental car to.
If your hire car rental period is yet to commence, you can modify your booking within the VroomVroomVroom app or by contacting our customer care team to make the required changes. If you have already collected your Sixt hire car, you’ll need to contact the depot you collected the vehicle from to request an extra day — or whatever extension period is desired. Bear in mind that any change to the rental period — regardless of if it is before you have collected the car or after — may alter the total cost of your hire car. If you need to cancel your booking, if you paid a deposit at the time of your booking with Sixt through VroomVroomVroom, then you need to give at least 48 hours notice of your cancellation in order to receive a refund.
The Terms and Conditions of renting a vehicle supplied by Sixt can vary depending on the exact vehicle hired, the age of the driver, the length of the hire period, and a number of other conditions. As such, the exact Terms and Conditions related to an individual vehicle rental can vary from one customer to another and one type of vehicle to another. Once you select a vehicle you are interested in on VroomVroomVroom, you can click on the prominent “Important Information” button to read our guideline to rental terms related to the vehicle which you should be aware of. Later in the booking flow are the detailed Terms and Conditions which include important points such as late return fee, cancellation policy, and car rental rules. You will need to read and accept this before finalising your booking. Upon arrival you will also be required to sign a Rental Agreement that outlines the specific Terms and Conditions for your rental.
